We got up early to head to Stellenbosch for the day - about an hour east of Cape Town. We stopped for coffee at Bootlegger's on the way. It was chilly and overcast by the ocean, but warm and perfect in Stellenbosch.
We got to the Coopmanhuijs Hotel in beautiful downtown Stellenbosch around 9 am, left our bags, grabbed a quick bite, and then were met by Eileen Swanepoel of Tsiba Tsiba (which is Afrikans for "hop hop") for a personal tour of the winelands.
She first took us to Kanonkop, which is known for its pinotage.
Then we went to Muratie, one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, which has preserved much of its historical feel dating back to the late 1600s.
We then went to Remhoogte where our tasting overlooked a field of Cape Zebra (a rare sub-species), springbok and wildebeest. Remhoogte had several dogs roaming the property, including a gorgeous little staffordshire terrier that reminded us of Kemble.
We had a delicious lunch at Guardian Peak overlooking beautiful mountain scenery behind a valley of grape vines. The four of us (Jen, Zita, me and Gow) had lunch, which included two bottles of wine and two steaks for $78. I love the prices here.
After lunch we went to Waterford Estate for their chocolate and wine pairing tasting, which was delicious.
After we parted ways with Eileen for the evening, we hung out at the hotel - which included some "grenades" - a tequila shot, followed by a shot of jaeger dropped into a glass of Red Bull. Eventually we made our way to Wijnhuis for dinner in downtown Stellenbosch.
It was a magnificent day with perfect weather and delicious wine in one of the world's most beautiful regions.

| Because the best way to keep things classy after a day of tasting wine is to do tequila shots (at least the glasses are fancy!) |
